How does Invisalign work

Your journey to straight teeth has never been easier! Using only industry-leading technology, the process of creating your Invisalign treatment plan, manufacturing your clear aligners and achieving your perfect smile is fast, simple and non-invasive.

Your custom-Invisalign clear aligners are made with specialist smart track materials, allowing your clear aligners to be trimmed perfectly to fit your gums, meaning optimal comfort, better fit, and accurate movements.

Your Invisalign clear aligners are designed to be easily removable to eat, drink and general daily hygiene maintenance. Approximately every two weeks your clear aligners are replaced with another. By replacing each aligner, your teeth are gently moving little by little, week by week until they are straightened into their final position.

Want to find out more?

Yes, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your Invisalign appointment:

Brush and Floss: Ensure you brush and floss your teeth thoroughly before your appointment to remove any food particles and plaque. This will help create a clean and healthy environment for your dentist.

Bring Necessary Items: Bring any paperwork or documents required for your appointment, such as insurance information, identification, or a list of medications you are taking.

Avoid Eating Beforehand: It’s generally a good idea to avoid eating a large meal immediately before your appointment, as you may be asked to remove your aligners during the appointment.

Arrive Early: Plan to arrive at your dental office a few minutes early for your appointment to allow time for check-in procedures and to fill out any necessary paperwork.

Clean Your Aligners: If you already wear Invisalign aligners, clean them thoroughly before your appointment. This will help ensure that your aligners are hygienic and free of bacteria.

Make a List of Questions: Take some time to write down any questions or concerns about Invisalign treatment so that you can discuss them with your dentist during your appointment.

Wear Comfortable Clothing: Since your dentist may need to take impressions or perform other procedures during your appointment, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement and access to your mouth. By taking these steps to prepare for your Invisalign appointment, you can help ensure that the process goes smoothly and that you get the most out of your time with your dentist.

If you have any specific questions or concerns about preparing for your appointment, discuss them with your dentist beforehand.

Before your Invisalign appointment, it’s generally a good idea to avoid consuming foods or beverages that could potentially stain your teeth or cause discomfort during your appointment. Here are some recommendations:

Staining Foods and Beverages: Avoid consuming dark-coloured foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, red wine, berries, tomato sauce, and soy sauce. These items can stain your teeth and make it more challenging for your dentist to assess your oral health accurately.

Sugary or Acidic Foods: Limit your consumption of sugary or acidic foods and beverages, such as citrus fruits, sodas, candies, and fruit juices. These items can increase the acidity in your mouth and may cause discomfort if you have any existing dental issues.

Hard or Sticky Foods: Steer clear of hard or sticky foods that could damage your teeth or dental work. Examples include nuts, hard candies, popcorn, caramel, and chewing gum.

Alcoholic Beverages: It’s best to avoid consuming alcoholic beverages before your appointment, as they can affect your oral health and may interact with any medications or sedation used during your dental treatment.

Tobacco Products: Avoid using tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco before your appointment, as they can stain your teeth, compromise your oral health, and interfere with healing after dental procedures.

By avoiding these foods and beverages before your Invisalign appointment, you can help ensure that your teeth are clean, your mouth is comfortable, and your dentist can provide you with the best possible care. If you have any specific dietary restrictions or concerns, discuss them with your dentist beforehand.

To achieve the best results from your Invisalign treatment, it’s essential to wear your aligners as prescribed by your dentist or orthodontist. In general, you should wear your Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours daily, removing them only for eating, drinking (except for water), brushing, and flossing. Consistently wearing your aligners as directed is crucial for the success of your treatment. Failure to wear your aligners for the recommended amount of time can prolong your treatment duration and may affect the effectiveness of your aligners in straightening your teeth. Your dentist or orthodontist will provide specific instructions on how long to wear each set of aligners before progressing to the next set. Typically, you will wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks before switching to the next set in the series. It’s essential to follow your dentist’s recommendations closely and attend all scheduled appointments to monitor your progress and ensure your treatment is on track. If you have any questions or concerns about wearing your Invisalign aligners, discuss them with your dentist or orthodontist.

If you experience discomfort or have questions during your Invisalign treatment, promptly communicating with your dentist or orthodontist is essential. Here are some steps you can take:

Contact Your Dentist: If you experience discomfort or have questions about your treatment, don’t hesitate to contact your dentist or orthodontist. They can provide guidance and address any concerns you may have.

Follow Instructions: Follow any instructions your dentist or orthodontist provided for managing discomfort or addressing common issues with your aligners. This may include wearing your aligners as directed, using orthodontic wax to alleviate irritation, or adjusting your oral hygiene routine.

Attend Scheduled Appointments: Attend all scheduled appointments with your dentist or orthodontist to monitor your progress and address any issues that arise during your treatment. Your dentist can adjust your treatment plan as needed to ensure the best possible outcome.

Keep Aligners Clean: Maintain good oral hygiene by cleaning your aligners regularly as instructed by your dentist. This can help prevent discomfort and ensure the effectiveness of your treatment.

Be Patient: Some discomfort or adjustment period is normal when starting Invisalign treatment or switching to a new set of aligners. Be patient and give yourself time to adapt to wearing the aligners. Discomfort usually subsides after a few days as your teeth adjust to the new aligners.

Stay Informed: Educate yourself about the Invisalign process and what to expect during treatment. Your dentist or orthodontist can provide resources and information to help you understand your treatment plan and make informed decisions about your oral health.

By communicating with your dentist or orthodontist and following their guidance, you can address any discomfort or concerns during your Invisalign treatment and ensure a smooth and successful outcome.
